私は機械オンチです
本職が音楽家のイギリス人女性の先生と第2回目のプライベートレッスン。
彼女とは、もっぱら携帯メールで連絡をし合っている。
しかし、携帯メールで英文を書くのはいささか"めんどくさい"ものがある。そこで、
「パソコンのメールアドレスを持っていますか？」
と彼女に質問すると、
「持っていることは持っているけど、私は機械オンチ(technophobia)で、パソコンの調子が悪かったりすると、どうしたらいいか分からなくなってしまうの。パソコン用語(computer jargon)はさっぱり分からない。」
ということなので、相変わらず、携帯でせっせと英文を打ち込んでいる。これも慣れれば大したことはない・・・と言えるように早くなりたいものだ。
今日のトピックは「旅行について」。
さて、あなたは外向的(outgoing)？それとも内向的(reserved)？
デラックスな旅行が好き？節約旅行が好き？
先生：I go abroad a lot, and it doesn't usually cost very much. I can get a discount ticket from the travel agency, I don't stay in expensive hotels, I don't buy many souvenirs, and each trip is short. Of course, the total cost depends on the exchange rate. If the local currency is strong, it can be very expensive.
私：I don't travel so often. I always suffer from jet-lag from the first few days, so if I go anywhere, I'd like to take long trips, and usually to out-of-the-way place.
年齢的なこともあるので、できたら、少しだけデラックスでゆったりとした旅行がしたいものですね。
